How to download and install mods on the sims 4.

Installing Mods in The Sims 4The process for downloading both CC and Mods is the same, so we will cover them both at once. They are installed in Documents/Electronic Arts/The Sims 4/Mods. Open Windows Explorer or Finder on Mac. Click your Documents folder, Electronic Arts, then The Sims 4. If you have trouble finding it, look for the Users folder on C:, click the User of the PC (in my case, Carl) then proceed to Documents (or My Documents) and go from there. For windows users, Documents is usually on the left in the menu as you can see in the screenshot.

Downloading custom content and mods for The Sims 4 should be as easy as clicking download on whichever site you’re browsing from. Files will then be placed in your designated downloads folder on your PC or Mac, and will then need to be moved to the appropriate folder for the game to recognise them. When you downloaded your game, you chose a folder to install The Sims 4 to. Navigate to it and locate the Mods folder. You can usually find this in Documents Electronic Arts The Sims 4 Mods, but you might have installed it in another location. We recommend using File Explorer’s built-in search box to help you locate the folder. By default, The Sims 4 has an option to disable mods in the game. Before you get started with playing with mods and custom content, you’ll need to start up your Sims 4 game and turn mods on (you’ll also need to do this after each patch that is released, as the game options default back to mods being turned off). Sims 4 Mod ManagerThere is an option for those of you who do not want to deal with unzipping files and would like the ability to easily enable/disable mods. Raxdiam’s Sims 4 Mod Manager is a solution for that. It’s got a lot of features, is fairly easy to use, and if you explore the site you can even find a video explaining how to use it.

After launching The Sims 4 and enabling mods in your game, locate the Mods folder for The Sims 4. The default path for your Sims 4 folder is located in your Documents folder. The Mods folder will generate inside the Sims 4 folder once you have launched the game with mods enabled. In the Mods folder, there is a “Resource.cfg” file. Right-click to open it using a simple text editing program, such as Notepad. You should see something like this, but on one line: Sims 4 players will need to manually enable any downloaded custom content and mods through the in-game menu. To do this, press ESC, then go to ‘Game Options’, then ‘Other’. From there, you can select ‘Enable custom content and mods’ and ‘Script mods Allowed’ to turn on your custom content. Remember that game mods and custom content are designed to work with genuine versions of The Sims 4. There is no guarantee that they will work with pirated versions of the game, so if you do have a pirated version and a mod isn’t working, that could be why. The only way to fix this would be to buy a copy of The Sims 4 directly from Origin, where you can ensure the game will be patched regularly and compatible with all mods and custom content. Go to your Mods folder and right-click it. Again, copy it to your Desktop. Once you’re sure you have a copy of your Mods folder on your Desktop, go ahead and delete the copy in your Sims 4 folder. Restart your game and play it for a few minutes. If your game runs without crashing or having errors, you know the issue is with one of your Mods. If it doesn’t, you’ll need to go out and repair your game (and the issue is something within your Sims 4 game itself).

How to use the mod filter.

Note about Mod HelpDo not bother asking us for help with mod/cc issues. Go to the mod author on a forum/site they frequent or where they host their content. The mod author knows their work and can help you better than us, additionally they may appreciate bug reports! There are several ways you can organize your Mods folder. I like to do mine by categories, as seen in the picture above. This doesn’t really do anything special during the gameplay, but it allows me to easily find content in my folders, install new content, and delete or update old content. This simple little mod adds that Set Filter menu to all sim-created paintings. It won’t do anything on a regular crafted painting, but when used on a paint by reference one it allows you to set any of the available filters quickly and easily. It will even work on a painting by reference that was created before installing the mod and the change will persist even if the mod is removed. Another trick I use frequently is unchecking the outfit category. Sometimes I want a specific dress for a party and it does not show up in the party section. So all you got to do is unclick party and then you can see ALL the dresses. This filter is also extremely helpful for cold weather and hot weather outfits, as a lot of CC is not set for those categories. The program will open up and you’ll see your Mods folder there. Highlight everything in the folder, and then go to the section that says Replace (3), just below the Mods window. In the Replace box, enter your cursor and just hit the space bar once. This will delete any spaces in the file names. In the same place that you find the filter for CC there should be a filter for Purchased content. Choosing Purchased should show only game content. This option is available in build/buy as well as CAS. In CAS you do have to enable the filter for each individual category, I thought that filter feature was in the base game as well haha.edit* i just took out all my cc, i was curious, and the filter options are still there. Here, under content where the purchased option is there should be a custom content option as well. I’m assuming it didn’t show up for me because i has no cc in game at the time. There are many ways to make Creating a Sim easier, one way is to use CAS filters. If you have a ton of CC like I do, sometimes it can be a bit overwhelming to find the perfect outfit. Filters are a great way to speed up your outfit design process and find what you are looking for in CAS.
